Secunderabad ( Telugu: సికింద్రాబాద్; Sikanderabad also ) is a city in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh with around 214,000 inhabitants ( 2011 census ). It is the twin city of Hyderabad, from which it is separated by the Hussain Lake.

History

On the eastern shore it's already grown together with Hyderabad, which is why it is often no longer perceived as an independent city, but as a part of Hyderabad. Secunderabad was founded as a British garrison town in the 18th century and after the third Nizam of the Asaf Jahi dynasty -, Sikander, named.

In Secunderabad are a major train station and the Begumpet Airport. The city has become a major center of Indian telecom and solar industry.

Sir Ronald Ross began his studies in Secunderabad for malaria.

Educational institutions

Due to the high presence of British, several convent schools were founded by Christian missionaries in the city.

Transport and Traffic

The city lies with its Secunderabad Junction railway station directly to the South Central Railway zone of the Indian Railways Indian Railways. In addition, Secunderabad is located directly on the main line of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation ( APSRTC ).

Hotel collapse in July 2013

On June 8, 2013 Hotels least 16 people died in the collapse of the two-story City Light.
