Sedgefield (Borough)

Sedgefield was an administrative district with the status of a borough in the county of Durham in England. He was named after the town of Sedgefield. However Largest city was Newton Aycliffe, while the administration was in Spennymoor. Other important towns of the former Districts were Shildon and Ferryhill.

The district was formed on 1 April 1974 and evolved from the merger of the urban districts Spennymoore and Shildon, of Sedgefield Rural District and part of the Rural District Darlington. On 1 April 2009, in addition Sedgefield in County Durham all Dictricts were abolished in the course of administrative reform and combined into the Unitary Authority County Durham.
