Seis am Schlern

Seis ( Siusi allo Sciliar Italian, Ladin Sëuc ) is a village and fraction of the market town of Castelrotto in South Tyrol (Italy).

Location

Seis is 1004 m ü.d.M. in Schlerngebiet at the foot of Alpe di Siusi, a well-known ski resort and one of the largest high mountain pastures of Europe, as well as the Sciliar massif. The village, which is colloquially abbreviated Seis, has an historic center, a few cafes, restaurants and shops as well as numerous hotels for tourists.

Environment

The area around the village Seis is ideal for hiking and offers visitors scenic views over the Eisacktal and the surrounding region. Above Seis, at the foot of the Schlern is the ruins of Hauenstein ( 1,191 m asl), which was in the late Middle Ages in the possession of the South Tyrolean knight and poet-composer Oswald von Wolkenstein. Very close is also the no less famous ruins Salegg ( 1,219 m asl). Are located in the surrounding area also numerous old churches, such as the Church of St. Valentin in the north and the Church of St. Constantine in Fiè in the west, which are built in the Romanesque- Gothic style.

Events

Every year in June, the Oswald von Wolkenstein Riding Tournament takes place. It is a kind of staging old jousting tournaments, with a competition on horses.

Economy

The locals live mainly from tourism and agriculture or commute to work in the nearby city of Bolzano and Brixen im Eisacktal.
