Seljalandsfoss

The Seljalandsfoss is a waterfall in southern Iceland.

It is located in the south of Iceland, on the ring road between Hvolsvöllur and Skógar directly at the junction of the trail toward the Þórsmörk. The river Seljalandsá crashes here 66 m deep on the former coastline in the flood plain of the Markarfljót, in which he leads shortly thereafter. The waterfall is like many of its kind, including the famous also Skógarfoss, below the large glacier Eyjafjallajökull shield.

You can walk behind the waterfall and look out through the curtain of water to the land. Especially recommended is a visit to the late evening hours when the colors are most intense.

There is a small campsite right next to the waterfall.

When the rock wall along the west goes towards Þórsmörk, you will pass numerous smaller cases, the most beautiful is the Gljúfurárfoss or Gljúfrabúi. The latter name means the canyon residents, because the waterfall is hidden partially in a half-open cave.
