Semikron

Semikron manufactures components in power electronics. The company was founded in 1951 by Friedrich Josef Martin in Nuremberg. Semikron is the only independent and globally oriented manufacturer of semiconductor devices in family ownership.

The headquarters is located in Germany. Semikron employs 3900 people in 35 companies. Production sites are in Germany, France, Italy, Slovakia, South Africa, Brazil, USA, China, India and Korea. Semikron is Marktführermit a share of 30 % in the diode and thyristor modules (as of 2010). 2010 took over Semikron Compact Dynamics, a development specialist for innovative electric drives and control systems. In 2011 Semikron entered into a joint venture with drivetek, a provider of application-specific controller software. In the same year took over Semikron Vepoint, a developer and manufacturer of DC / DC converters and chargers for hybrid and electric vehicle market.

Product spectrum

The product range from 1 kW to 10 MW are 11,600 different power semiconductors. The power electronics ranging from the chip via discrete diodes and thyristors and modules (IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes, thyristors, CIBs ( Converter - Inverter -brakes ) and IPM ( Intelligent Power Module) ), control and protection functions to complex integrated systems. For the application they are used in industrial drives, wind and solar systems, hybrid and electric vehicles and power supplies.

Semikron occurs regularly out through innovations in the field of power electronics. Semikron invented the semi pack the first isolated power module built up in the world, which is now 56 million units were shipped.

Applications

Today, 57 gigawatts of installed wind power capacity is powered by Semikron technology. 122 gigawatts, the total installed wind power capacity since 1993. Semikron developed technologies for markets such as renewable energy and hybrid vehicles as well as for industrial applications such as electric drives, electric vehicles, welding machines, lifts, power supplies, pumps, conveyors, trains and trams.

Technology

Spring contacts allow for electrical connection without soldering. Since no Lotalterung occurs, spring contacts are resistant to shock, vibration and corrosion and have high thermal shock resistance even under harsh environmental conditions. The controller can be easily fixed with screws on the module, because by the pressure applied by the springs electrical contact is established.

By the use of contact printing technology can be dispensed with a plurality of solder layers. This modules have SKiiP technology has a lower thermal resistance, resulting in a longer life with them.

By SiNTER technology in conjunction with SKiiP technology can be dispensed solder and the life of the module will be extended. The chip is not soldered, but sintered, that is, connected by cold welding, and therefore does not fatigue on.

Customer Care

In May 2012, Epcos, LEM, Mersen, proton Electrotex, Semikron, SindoPower and Weidmüller founded the joint power electronics platform Power Guru, there to concentrate the power electronics knowledge online.

Distribution

2009 renamed the Semikron Electronic Components GmbH, Nuremberg into SindoPower GmbH, Nuremberg. The 100-percent subsidiary of SEMIKRON occurs as a global B2B sales company in e -commerce area.

SindoPower offers the following advice and information forms:

  • Price and availability information
  • Network and communication platform for power electronics experts
  • Service Consulting " TechChat "
  • Design-in support for product selection

Social

In memory of the wife of company founder Fritz Martin social club " Martin Care eV " was founded in the 1980s. The association takes care of orphans in Brazil. In addition, projects in India, South Africa and other parts of the world are supported. Financed the club will, among other things through employee donations and through the sale of calendars.

In a company nursery facility at the main Nuremberg location Semikron offers children the Semikron and the company operating here 74 day care places from 1 year up to school age. The nursery is open Monday to Friday 6-17 clock and can be used temporally flexible. There are no closures in the holiday season. Furthermore, an additional care for siblings offered during the holidays. The company kindergarten facility was opened by Federal Minister Ursula von der Leyen in an opening ceremony on June 27, 2007.
