Seminole is a city in Seminole County ( Oklahoma), in the United States. It has 6,899 inhabitants ( 2000). During the oil boom in the 1920s Seminole had a strong population growth and attracted people from across the U.S. who sought their fortune in the oil business. After the boom, the population went back. In the city the Seminole State College is located.

The city has an area of 37.6 km ², of which 36.1 km ² land and 1.5 km ² (3.93 %) is water area.

Demography

In 2000 lived in Seminole 6,899 inhabitants and there were 2,760 households and 1,827 families. With 16.38 % of the proportion of the Indian population ( Native Americans ) is unusually high. The proportion of the white population is 73.42 %.
