Semirechye (pig)

The Seven Rivers Country Pig ( Russian: Ceмиpeчeнcкaя, Semiretschenskaja ) is a multi-purpose breed of pig from the Seven Rivers country (Kazakhstan).

Breeding history

The breed was originally developed under the name Kazakh hybrids by crossing Large White boar crosses with Kemerovo pigs and then mated with each other. In 1978 the breed was officially recognized as the Seven Rivers country pig.

There are 9 sire lines and 20 sows families.

Occurrence

Main breeding stations are Illijski, Kaskelenski and Raswilnenski in Almaty area, Buruldaiski and 22 party congress in South Kazakhstan region, and Rosa Luxembourg in the area Zhambyl. Bred will continue in the areas of Almaty, Zhambyl, South Kazakhstan and Karaganda in Kazakhstan. In 1980, 43,000 purebred animals the total number.
