Semyon Bogdanov

Semyon Bogdanov Ilyich (Russian Семён Ильич Богданов, scientific transliteration Il'ič Semen Bogdanov; * 17.jul / 29 August 1894greg in Saint Petersburg, .. † March 12, 1960 in Moscow) was in 1945 head of the Soviet Military Administration (SMAD ) in Brandenburg.

Bogdanov made ​​from 1915 to 1918 military service and was then a professional soldier. 1938-1939 he was jailed under the Stalinist purges. In 1942 he became a member of the CPSU. 1943-1945 he was commander of the 2nd Guards Tank Army and in 1945 Marshal of Armoured Troops.

Until 1947 he was head of the SMAD - state administration of Brandenburg, then commander of the armored and mechanized units of the Soviet occupation forces in Germany, from 1948 to 1951 throughout the Soviet Army. 1954 until his retirement in 1956, he was commander of the Military Academy for armored and motorized units.

Bogdanov was a candidate of the CPSU Central Committee and a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR. He was honored as a Hero of the Soviet Union with the Lenin and the Suworoworden.
