Senate of the Republic (Turkey)

The Senate of the Republic ( Turkish: Cumhuriyet Senatosu ) was the smaller chamber of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, headquartered in Ankara. It was created in 1961 and 1981 resolved with the transition to the single-chamber system. In order to be allowed Senator, you had to be over 40 years old and have completed at least the university.

Structure of the senators

According to the Turkish Constitution of 1961, there were three types of senators:

The term of office of the Senators of the first and second category was six years according to the constitution. In the first category here Every two years, 50 senators were elected. The third category consisted of senators by a lifetime term of office.
