Seoul–Yangyang Expressway

The Expressway 60 ( Kor. 서울 양양 고속도로 ) is an expressway in South Korea. The Expressway 60 is the northernmost east-west highway of the country, from Seoul to Chuncheon and in the future to Yangyang on the east coast. The existing section is 79 km long, the planned length is 150 km.

Street Description

The highway begins at the east side of Seoul, where the city highway 88 is from the center of the city to Expressway 60 as from the cross with the 100 Expressway, the ring road of Seoul. The highway crosses the Han River and continues towards the east by a mountainous area. The highway quickly leaves the city and runs along lakes and mountains. The motorway is only a short distance south of Chuncheon along and finally crossing the Expressway 55 The highway ends in Hongcheon.

History

The first plans for an Expressway 60 date from the mid -1990s. The highway to Chuncheon was released on 15 July and 30 October 2009 the traffic. On 26 May 2009, the construction of the extension to Yangyang began in the east of the country.

Future

The highway is currently a further 80 kilometers to the east extended to bind the county Yangyang on the east coast of South Korea. This section performs a mountainous region and the travel time is currently very long. The highway here runs in a distance of about 50 kilometers parallel to the border of North Korea. In December 2015, the highway will be completed.
