The Heart-shaped tongue -leaved ( serapias cordigera ) is a species of the orchid family ( Orchidaceae).

Description

The perennial plant reaches stature heights of 15 to 50 centimeters. The stem and the leaves are mottled purple in the lower section.

The short inflorescence is composed of three to ten flowers ( rarely up to 20). The lip has two blackish at the base spreading calluses. The rear and front lip overlap. The dark red to purple-black front lip is about densely hairy to the middle and heart-shaped. It is 20-29 mm long and 16-23 mm wide.

Bloom time is from April to May

The circulation area covers almost the entire Mediterranean region from the Iberian Peninsula to Asia Minor and Tunisia.
