Serendipaceratops
Serendipaceratops is a little-known genus of bird Beck dinosaurs ( ornithopods ) from the group of ceratopsians.
From this dinosaur so far only a cubit was found. This can indeed imagine one belonging to the ceratopsian, but no further conclusions to be drawn, so Serendipaceratops nomen dubium is considered.
What is remarkable about this finding, however, is the location. The fossil was discovered in the Wonthaggi Formation in Victoria in Australia. It is the first find of Ceratopsia of this continent and adjacent to the also poorly preserved Notoceratops from Argentina the only one in the southern hemisphere - all other ceratopsian discoveries come from East Asia or North America.
The first description was in 2003. Initially, the fossil was thought to be that of a theropod, by chance, the researchers discovered the similarity of the ulna with that of Leptoceratops. The genus is named after the accident ( serendipity ) and the Greek keratops ( = " horn face "). Type species is Serendipaceratops arthurcclarkei, the specific epithet honors the writer Arthur C. Clarke.
The finds are dated to the Early Cretaceous ( Aptian ) at an age of 115 million years. This Serendipaceratops is one of the older Ceratopsia.
