Serendipity (in short " s9y ") is a PHP-based blog publishing system, with the support of various database management systems. Serendipity is released as free software under a BSD license.

History

Serendipity was launched in the winter of 2002 by Jannis Hermanns under the name jBlog. Due to a name conflict with an existing blog publishing system, the name was serendipity brought into play by Sterling Hughes. The proposal is based on an essay by Sam Ruby and played by actress Salma Hayek in the film Dogma stripper. The short form s9y is to short forms as l10n ajar, with the number 9 is the number of letters omitted.

Functions

Serendipity is popular with its users in particular because of the variety of plugins ( eg podcasting, galleries, multilingualism, Textile markup ) and the Smarty - based template engine. Furthermore, an embedded operating in existing web pages possible ( embed option), as well as the operation of multiple weblogs at the same address (Shared option). Since the publication of a plug-in for creating and managing static pages Serendipity can also be used as a content management system. Particularly appreciated here is the easy creation of templates and the user-friendly creation of new pages.
