Sergei Vasilievich Lebedev (Russian: Сергей Васильевич Лебедев; born July 25, 1874 in Lublin, † May 2, 1934 in Leningrad) was a Russian chemist.

Life and work

Sergei Vasilievich Lebedev invented the synthesis of butadienischen elastomers. The polymerization of butadiene with alkali metals was first described in 1910, independently of the German chemists Carl Dietrich Harries, the English chemist Edward Francis Matthews and the Russian chemist Sergei Lebedev W.. Lebedev invented the process of anionic solution polymerization of liquid butadiene in the presence of sodium. During the Second World War, the process of Lebedev also by the German industry was used. Lebedev also developed named after him Lebedev process for preparing 1,3 - butadiene by dehydrodimerization of ethanol.
