Sergio Bambaren

Sergio Bambaren Roggero ( born December 1, 1960 in Lima, Peru) is a Peruvian writer. He was The Dreaming Dolphin known for his novel.

Biography

After visiting the British High School in Lima Bambaren moved to the U.S., where he studied at Texas A & M University chemical engineering and later worked as a marketing expert. As an avid surfer and adventurer, he made many trips have taken him to Mexico and Chile. Then he returned for a short time back to Peru, before he found his new home in Sydney.

A few years later he traveled as part of a sabbatical to Europe. He also came to a beach in Portugal, where he became friends with a dolphin. This encounter inspired him to write his novel The Dreaming Dolphin. The publisher Random House Australia offered him a release. Bambaren declined the offer because he did not agree with some of the proposed amendments. He decided in 1996 to publish self-published. His debut novel became a bestseller that has been translated into 25 languages. The story is very similar to Richard Bach's novel Jonathan Livingston Seagull. In the following years Bambaren wrote many other books, all dealing with the sea and dreams. He now lives back in Lima.

Because of his passion for the sea Bambaren In 1999, together with environmentalists, the Peruvian marine research and conservation organization Mundo Azul (literally "Blue World "), whose vice-president he is. He also supports the association Dolphin Aid, which brings handicapped children with dolphins in contact.
