Serra d'Or

Serra d'Or is a Catalan magazine, which appeared in October 1959. It was promoted by a group of university students. It was published by the printing house of the Monastery of Montserrat, with a monthly circulation of 8,000 copies.

Origin

The origin of the magazine can be found in 1946. During the coronation celebrations of the Virgin of Montserrat in 1947 there was a meeting between Catalan intellectuals and Benedictines of Montserrat monastery despite the difficulties this time. At that moment there were two publications that were funded by the Montserrat monastery, and who were born separately: Germinàbit, which was a magazine for the old singer of the choir of the abbey, and Serra d'Or, a magazine for the workers of the Abbey had. History

From the beginning, this magazine was a stage for the Catalan intellectuals of the second half of the 20th century. This magazine took advantage of the possibilities of cultural and political activity that existed in the Francoist regime, for the case that one could avoid the censorship. From 1964 to 1995, the director of the magazine, the monk Maur Maria Boix was. He was replaced by Josep Massot i Muntaner. From 1963 Jordi Sarsanedas was the editor in chief. Today Marta Nadal is the editor in chief.
