Serraval

Serraval is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Serraval is located on 759 m above sea level. M., northeast of Faverges, about 20 km southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The mountain village extends into the southern Bornes Alps on the eastern foot of the Tour Nice, a short tributary of the chaise on the ascent to the pass crossing the Col du Marais.

The area of ​​19.73 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bornes Alps. The main part of the area is occupied by the valley of Serraval, the south to the chaise (right tributary of the Arly ) is dehydrated. To the north of this valley opens to the broad saddle of the Col du Marais (837 m above sea level. M. ). This mountain pass is in the east of the heights of the Montagne de Sulens (1839 m above sea level. M. ) and flanked to the west by the massif of the tour Cute, on whose slope at 2200 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Serraval is achieved. At the far south of the municipality extends to the bottom incised V-shaped valley of the chaise.

  • Les Prunier (920 m above sea level. M. ) above the Col du Marais
  • La Perrière (830 m above sea level. M. ) north of the Col du Marais

Neighboring communities of Serraval are Les Clefs in the north, Manigod and Le Bouchet in the east, Marlen and Saint- Ferréol in the south and Montmin in the West.

History

Serraval is first documented in the early 15th century. The place name means as much as completed, is constricting valley. In 1877, Le Bouchet was separated from Serraval and raised to an independent municipality.

Attractions

The parish church of Saint- Maurice was built of tufa in the Gothic Revival style in the 19th century. In Villard, La Bottière and Les Pruniers chapels are from the 19th century.

Population

With 622 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Serraval is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still in Serraval counted 1433 inhabitants). Since the mid- 1970s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Serraval was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and Alpine village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. The mountain village also benefits from a modest summer tourism.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares of the secondary road D12, which runs from Faverges over the Col du Marais after Thones.
