Les Clefs

Les Clefs is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Les Clefs is located at 710 m above sea level, south of Thones, approximately 16 km east-southeast of the town of Annecy (air line). The mountain village extends into the Bornes Alps at the eastern foot of the Tour Nice, on a narrow ridge above the mouth of Ruisseau de Chamfroid in Fier.

The area of ​​18.47 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the Bornes Alps. The main part of the area is occupied by the Vallée de Manigod ( drained by the Fier ) and the Vallée du Chamfroid. The Vallée du Chamfroid extends into south-north direction and has at the top of a relatively broad, flat valley floor. The valley sides are divided by several gullies. In the northeast, the municipality area extends to the height of the Bois du Mont, in the southeast to the mountain pastures of the Montagne de Sulens (1839 m). In the west the Vallée du Chamfroid is flanked by the massif of the tour Cute, to which the main peak of La Tour Nice ( with 2351 m the highest peak of Les Clefs ) and the secondary peaks L' Aiguille (1847 m) and Rocher de Belchamp (1857 m) belong.

At Les Clefs next to the village itself includes various hamlet settlements and farmsteads, including:

  • Monti Brand ( 830 m) on a terrace on the western side of the valley above Les Clefs
  • Belchamp (750 m) in the Vallée du Chamfroid
  • Le Cropt (778 m ) in a valley widening of the Vallée du Chamfroid

Neighboring municipalities of Les Clefs are Thones in the north, Manigod in the east, the south and Serraval Montmin and Talloires in the West.

History

Les Clefs formed in the 12th century its own little rule.

Attractions

The village church in Sardinian style dates from the 19th century. In several hamlets there are chapels; particularly noteworthy is the Chapel of Le Cropt, which was built in the 17th century.

Population

With 588 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Les Clefs is one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. During the 19th and 20th centuries, the population steadily increased due to high levels of emigration from (1861 were still 636 residents counted in Les Clefs ). Since the mid- 1980s, however, a significant increase in population was recorded again.

Economy and infrastructure

Les Clefs was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture and Alpine village. Today there are various operations of small businesses. Many workers are commuters who engage in the larger towns in the vicinity of their work. In recent decades, benefited Les Clefs from tourism, the community is mostly specialized in summer recreational activities.

The village is located off the major thoroughfares. The main access is from Thones through the valley of Fier, the road leads southwards over the Col du Marais to Faverges. Another road connection with Manigod.
