The headwaters of the Sesia

The Sesia is a river in Italy. It rises in the glaciers of Monte Rosa massif, in the upper Valsesia valley above the village of Alagna. In the upper part of the Sesia carries significant indicator of a torrent. He still takes on numerous smaller streams, which are primarily from the glaciers of Valgrande. Along its course it receives numerous inlets; on the right side of the Valsesia are the streams Olen, Otro, Vogna, Artogna, Sorba and Enga to call; on the left side of the Torrente Sermenza.

On a total of 138 kilometers of the Sesia flows through the towns of Borgosesia, Greggio and Vercelli, before it flows into the Po. It forms the border between Piedmont and Lombardy. In the region around Vercelli Arborio and it serves as a source of water for rice cultivation.

Popular is the Sesia at kayakers. In 2001, here the European Championships and 2002 World Cups in the canoe racing took place.
