The Settmecke is a 9.9 km long, orographic left tributary of the Rohr in North Rhine-Westphalia Sauerland ( Germany ).

Geography

The Settmecke arises when Stockumer Bach, on the south Dörnholthausen, a district of Sundern, at an altitude of 508 m above sea level. NN at Black cock head. From here it flows primarily in northeastern direction. It flows through on its way to the already mentioned Dörnholthausen, Stockum, Seidenfeld and flows Sundern to 245 meters above sea level. Nature and Environment

In the local layers of Dörnholthausen, Stockum, Seidenfeld and Sundern the Settmecke has been heavily modified by humans. The river here flows partly like a channel, where the banks are größententeils strongly fortified. A drinking water is not carried out from the Settmecke.

The Settmecke on behalf of the Ministry for the Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection of North Rhine -Westphalia ( MUNLV ) was investigated for the management plan for the Water Framework Directive of the EU. The Settmecke as a whole was classified as natural, despite barriers in the local situation. The general degradation was classified as moderate and the saprobic as well. In animals and plants made ​​these classifications in benthic invertebrates ( living at the bottom of the water microbes ) as moderate, with macrophytes (visible with the naked eye aquatic plants that live in and on the water surface, including Chara, mosses and ferns and seed plants such as pondweed ) as well, and phytobenthos (living on the water bottom plants, mainly algae) as standard. The fish fauna has not been studied. With regard to the burden of Settmecke with nitrate, metals and other possible as the water -polluting substances it was classified as good to very good. The chemical state was evaluated as good. Because of the barriers in the local principles of ecological status and potential for improvement was only classified as moderate.

At the Settmecke previously dippers, gray wagtails and Mallard were detected as breeding birds. The Tufted Duck is extinct as a breeding bird. As food stays during herons and black stork. The muskrat and, in the local situation of Sundern, the brown rat occur.
