Severin Roesen

Severin Roesen ( born February 5, 1816 in Boppard, † after 1872 ) was a German -American still-life painters of the 19th century.

Life

About the life of Severin Roesen is very little known. He was baptized on 5 February 1816 in Boppard as a child of the surveyor Stephan Roesen and Margaretha cancer and was trained as a porcelain and enamel painter. In 1848 Roesen emigrated to the United States and lived for some time in New York City. In 1857 he moved to Williamsport, Pennsylvania. He specialized in floral still life in the tradition of Dutch and German painters of the 17th century. In 1872 he left Williamsport and disappeared without a trace.

The former First Lady Jacqueline Jackie Kennedy (1929-1994) first big project was to change the appearance of the White House. To that end, she founded a committee in February 1961. In the newly renovated rooms, they hanged pictures of Severin Roesen, making his paintings befell a kind of renaissance in the United States.
