The Sevre Nantaise at Le Longeron

Template: Infobox River / Obsolete

The Sevre Nantaise is a river in the France, which runs into the regions of Poitou -Charentes and Pays de la Loire. It rises some 210 meters in the municipality of Le Beugnon, drained generally in a northerly direction and empties after 142 kilometers in Nantes as a left tributary of the Loire.

It is not to be confused with the Sevre Niortaise, which has its source about 40 kilometers to the south-east, flows in an east-west direction and flows north of La Rochelle in the Atlantic. The two rivers of the same name gave the Deux-Sevres ( German: Two Sèvres ) the name.

Shipping

The navigable route extends from the estuary to the place Monnières and is 21.5 km long. Also, the left tributary, the Maine, was made navigable for a distance of 5.5 kilometers in length, and forms with the Sevre Nantaise a common area. There is no commercial shipping, the flows are serviced for small pleasure craft. Since 1992 there is a modern tidal weir at the mouth of Nantes. This design maintains the water level to the lock Vertou constant, which has advantages for navigation, the environment and the maintenance of this section of the river with him, who was previously depending on the tide and exposed to the silt deposits of the Loire. The lock Vertou has dimensions of 31.50 x 5.50 m, the permissible draft is 1.20 meters.
