Shah Abdul Latif Bhittai

Shah Abdul Latif (* 1690, † 1751 ), and Abd -ul -Lat ¯ if, was a Sufi scholar and classical poet Sindh.

He wrote poetry primarily in the language of the Sindhi, but also mastered other Indo-Iranian languages ​​like Persian, Sanskrit, Urdu, Siraiki and Baluchi. The much -traveled poet and philosopher maintained a spiritualised and mystical poetry.

Life and effect

Was born the descendant of Persian ancestors Abdul Latif in Hala Haveli near the village Khatiyan. After a love marriage in 1713 and died Abdul Latif's wife early, whereupon the poet is not newly wed again.

Fearing that his poetry would not continue after his death, Abdul Latif threw all his writings in the Kiran Lake.

After his death in 1752 was for him a mausoleum in Bith, the place where he is buried, built. Here is a copy of the poetic writings Abdul Latif, which a servant had created from memory deposited. The German scholar Ernst Trumpp published in 1866 under the title " Risolo " a collection of Shah Latif's poetry in the language Sindhi.
