Shammai

Rabbi Shammai (* and † around 100 BC, also listed as Shammai Haffakin ) was a Pharisaic school's founder in the 1st century BC and introduced the weightiest competitors of his teacher Hillel dar.

Work

In the Jewish tradition, as with Hillel and Shammai of several statements in the sayings of the Fathers, a popular section of the Talmud, survived. An example: Shammai said: Set for your Torah fixed hours; say little but do much, and receive all people with a friendly face (Chapter I, 15). His theses, particularly those concerning the divorce, were advocated, inter alia, of Jesus of Nazareth.
