Shams Badran

Shame Eddin Badran (Arabic شمس بدران, born 1929 ) is a former Egyptian politician.

Life

Badran met his wife at the American University of Cairo know and was head of the Egyptian General Staff before 1966 Minister of Defence of Gamal Abdel Nasser in the fall.

From 25th to May 28th, 1967 Badran was in Moscow. Alexei Nikolayevich Kosygin assured in an over brought by Badran letter to Nasser that the Soviet Union are on the side of the United Arab Republic in a conflict in Palestine and would allow no intervention of any state. He was blamed for the Egyptian defeat in the Six Day War.

On January 22, 1968 in Cairo began a trial before a revolutionary tribunal for treason against Badran and conspirators. Badran was indicted with 53 other military personnel, including the director of the al - Dschihaz Mucha Barat al - Amma Salah Nasr, a former Major General Othaman Nasr and the frühereren Interior Minister Abbas Radwan for high treason and sentenced to life imprisonment. 1976 Anwar Sadat pardoned 30 inmates, including Salah Nasr and Badran.
