Shangani Patrol, patrol ride to Shangani, was part of the First Matabelekriegs in the former Rhodesia.

Course

In 1893 a war broke out between there indigenous Matabele and the British colonial society, so that the President of the Cape Colony after several skirmishes and battles sent out an about 470 -strong expedition armed force to cause the capture of the king of the Matabele, Lobengula. It consisted of 34 white men of the British South Africa Company, of which 31 are killed in a skirmish with the Matabele warriors on Shangani River on November 1, 1893. For the white Rhodesians it was a massacre, they glorified. One of the three survivors was Frederick Russell Burnham.
