Sharp EL-8

The EL -8 from Sharp is the first portable electronic calculator of the world that has been manufactured in series. It was introduced in January 1971.

The electronics are summarized in four Rockwell produced LSI ICs ( large-scale integration ), which were first used in the Sharp QT - 8D. As with this, there is a keyboard of 15 keys, with the multiplication and division share a button - critical is whether the arithmetic operation with = or - = complete.

The display consists of eight Digitron tubes in which a figure of eight irregularly shaped segments is assembled. The power is supplied via an integrated battery pack or an external power supply and charger.

The Swedish office equipment manufacturer Facit drove the device with a different case design than Facit 1111.
