Shed (weaving)

The trade referred to in weaving the diamond-shaped gap or cavity is formed between the upper and the lowered warp threads and is used for insertion of the weft yarn.

The shed is a dynamic structure, which closed during the weaving process after every shot and entry in some other form - is reopened - depending on the compound used. The length of the compartment is limited at the front by the fabric. The center of the compartment is within the shafts. In the prior - loom ( basse lisse ) the shed is horizontal, the weight loom the tray is vertical.
