Shed (weaving)

The trade referred to in weaving the diamond-shaped gap or cavity is formed between the upper and the lowered warp threads and is used for insertion of the weft yarn.

The shed is a dynamic structure, which closed during the weaving process after every shot and entry in some other form - is reopened - depending on the compound used. The length of the compartment is limited at the front by the fabric. The center of the compartment is within the shafts. In the prior - loom ( basse lisse ) the shed is horizontal, the weight loom the tray is vertical.

To the shuttle or the weaving shuttles to carry out the tray at a minimum unobstructed and without flaw, this should be as far as possible and as clean as possible open. From a clean tray to talk, seen on various shafts of the page if all the warp threads are of the same height. To this end, the middle shafts must be stronger than excavated the front and rear at vielschäftigen bonds or tissues, the lacing of the steps must be adapted accordingly.

The height of the shed is affected or limited by:

  • The length of the loom
  • The length of the strands and the heald
  • The so-called jump height of Webkammes or reed
  • The type of Schaftaushebung ( pulley or counter- march ).

Too high a specialist affected the warp due to excessive tensile stress.
