Sheikh Khalid Hafiz

Khalid Sheikh Hafiz ( Kamal Khalid Sheikh Abdul Hafiz, born December 1, 1938 in Mubarakpur, India, † December 6, 1999 in Wellington, New Zealand ) was an Imam. He served from 1982 to 1999 the Muslim minority in New Zealand and the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand as a consultant.

Life

Khalid Sheikh Hafiz, son of Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri was born in Mubarakpur, India.

He attended the Ehyal ul- Ulam in Mubarakpur and received further training at the Dar ul - Ulum Deoband in. He completed his studies in Islamic jurisprudence ( fiqh ) 1962-1967 at the Islamic University of Medina, Saudi Arabia. After graduation, he worked for 14 years as a teacher in Ghana. 1981 appointed as Imam for the Muslim community in Wellington in New Zealand, the Saudi Arabian religious school ( Darul Ifta ) Sheikh Hafiz.

He soon became chaplain in the newly created national Muslim organization in New Zealand, the Federation of Islamic Associations of New Zealand ( FIANZ ). As Imam Khalid Sheikh Hafiz capital played an important role in the development of the New Zealand Muslim minority in the 1980s and 1990s.

In contrast to the fluctuating elected members of the committees Mosque Hafiz visited almost all the meetings over nearly two decades. He also took care of the first national Quran recitation competitions; promoted and in interreligious dialogue with local Christians and Jews, and the persistently preached tolerance and kindness.

Sheikh Hafiz took part in the Hajj nine times and spoke English, Arabic and Urdu.

Khalid Sheikh Hafiz died in a suburb of Wellington Rongotai at the age of 61 years. About 200 people attended his funeral and he was in the local newspaper obituary as " to imam as imams shoulderstand be, but rarely are" ( A Imam, as imams should be, but rarely are ).
