Sheldon Moldoff

Sheldon Douglas " Shelly " Moldoff ( born April 14, 1920 in New York City; † February 29, 2012 in Lauderhill, Florida) was an American comic book artist. Moldoff was primarily known as the creator of the cartoon characters Poison Ivy, Batgirl and Hawkgirl.

Life

Moldoff, who was born in Manhattan, New York, grew up together with his two brothers ( Sonny and Stan) on in the Bronx. At seventeen, he started for the publisher National Periodicals to work as a draftsman. There he first designed sports cartoons that were printed in the Action Comics and worked mainly as a cover artist, that is, as signatories to the front pages of a booklet for various series, such as All- American Comics. In the early 1940s, Mayer created the series Black Pirate, who had the adventures of a pirate to content, and worked at the comics on the alien police Hawkman.

After transient participation in the Second World War to the early 1940s Moldoff returned in 1945 in his old job back.
