Action

Up to about three exceptions, all of the episodes hold very closely to the literary works of Arthur Conan Doyle. Nevertheless, there are some factors that was omitted, or left to replace, for example, the fact that Watson fell in love with the client Mary Morstan and eventually even married. In the series, you left out this because the producers and writers found it too difficult to Holmes and Watson to bring together again, if the doctor was married. Also you had the case changed The League of redheads, so that at the end of Professor Moriarty (played by Eric Porter) was the culprit. Even the noble bachelor ( in the series is the title " The coveted bachelor " ) has been changed, but only so that you could stretch it to 100 minutes, and it was exciting.

Background

David Burke got out with the last issue of 1985, because he wanted to spend more time with his family and take a theater offer. But he suggested himself Edward Hardwicke as his successor, who was finally taken. The replacement of the Watson- actor was so good that some viewers in England did not notice this at first and Hardwicke was approached on the set even with David. Hardwicke first appeared in the empty house from the year 1986.

The existing of just one long episode season 4 was significantly stylish designed, as they should be aired at the time of Sherlock Holmes ' 100th birthday, on 29 December 1987. In 1887, the first Sherlock Holmes novel was A Study in Scarlet published.

The fall in the Reichenbach Falls in the last issue was actually filmed on location in Meiringen with two stunt men. Brett (Sherlock Holmes) was doubled for Mac Boyle and Porter ( Moriarty ) by Alf Joint. Cox was producer whose services to awesome. He said they were admirable, as they risked their lives for a movie. The stunt is one of the most expensive and elaborate on British television. Holmes actor Jeremy Brett personally bought the champagne as a tribute to this stunts.
