Shigeru So

Shigeru Sō (Japanese宗 茂, Sō Shigeru, born January 9, 1953 in Usuki ) is a former Japanese marathon runners.

In 1976 he qualified as a third in the Lake Biwa Marathon for the Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, where he finished in 20th place. In the same year he was fourth at the Fukuoka Marathon in 2:14:59 h 1978 he won the Beppu - Oita Marathon with the world record of 2:09:06 and was off third on Lake Biwa and Fukuoka. In 1979 he won the Lake Biwa and was second in the pre-Olympic marathon in Moscow. Also on the second place he came in Fukuoka, after which he was nominated for the second time for the Olympic Games at the end of the year; However, the boycott of his country prevented participation in the Olympic Summer Games in Moscow.

In 1981 he again won the Beppu - Oita Marathon and finished third in Fukuoka. 1983 was the Fukuoka Marathon again as elimination race for the Olympics. Shigeru Sō qualified as third ( and second best Japanese ) as well as his twin brother Takeshi, who finished fourth.
