Shiretoko-Nationalpark

The Shiretoko National Park (Japanese知 床 国立 公园, Shiretoko Kokuritsu Kōen ) covers most of the Shiretoko Peninsula at the northeastern tip of the island of Hokkaido in Japan.

This Japanese National Park was established on 1 June 1964 and has an area of ​​711.0 km ².

As one of the most remote regions of Japan, a large part of the peninsula is accessible only on foot or by boat.

The park is known for the largest bear population of Japan and for the view of the island Kunashiri which is occupied by Russia but claimed by Japan.

2005, UNESCO declared the area including the adjacent marine reserve to the World Heritage Committee recommended the cross-border development of the region together with the Russian Kuril Islands as a "World Heritage Peace Park".
