Shivaree (band)

Shivaree [ ʃɪvəɹi ː ] is an American musical group.

In their songs, the band combines melancholy alternative pop / rock with alternative country and jazz elements. The texts of Shivaree deal primarily with singer Ambrosia Parsleys past.

Shivaree is an old tradition in the southern United States, in which sing the friends of a newlywed couple on their wedding night and make noise on pots until they are invited for a drink in the house.

History

Singer Ambrosia Parsley (born June 23, 1971 in Reseda, California) had its first performance at the age of seven, when she performed accompanied by a 99 -member senior banjo band at a pizzeria in her hometown. At thirteen, she left her home and traveled throughout the United States. Parsley met guitarist Duke McVinnie and began to work with him. Together with him and keyboardist Danny McGough, she founded the band Junebug. After a name change to Shivaree the group recorded their first album. With I Oughtta Give You A Shot In The Head For Making Me Live In This Dump and the single release Goodnight Moon they recorded mainly in Europe successes. Rolling, the success came through the use of the single in a television commercial in Italy. Here the single occupied for three weeks # 1 on the charts. The unusually long name of their first album comes from Green Acres, a U.S. sitcom from the 60s. In one episode, the people gathered around a cow that had swallowed a radio and from whose belly came a song with this title.

The second album Rough Dreams not released in 2002, due to disputes with their record label Capitol Records, however, in the United States. At this time the band was nearing resolution.

In April 2004, Ambrosia Parsley began the project Ambrosia Sings the News on the radio station Air America. Once a week sums up the singer in a short song together the events of the past week. About iTunes a single titled 2004: The Year in Review - sold For Anyone Who Can Bear the Mere Thought. That same year, Quentin Tarantino used the song Goodnight Moon uncredited for his film Kill Bill - Volume 2

In autumn 2004, published Shivaree Breach EP on the label Zoe Records, the following year, their third album, Who's Got Trouble?.

Followed in 2007 by the album Tainted Love: Mating Calls and Fight Songs. This exclusively contained cover versions, among others Michael Jackson's Do not Stop 'Til You Get Enough, R. Kelly's Half On A Baby and Looks That Kill, the original of Mötley Crüe.
