Shlomit

Shlomit is a settlement founded in 2011, the Amana settlement movement in the northwestern Negev desert in Israel.

Geography

Shlomit is about 700 meters from the Egyptian border in the south-west of the regional administration Eshcol, and about 10 kilometers south of the Israeli- Egyptian border crossing at Kerem Shalom. The area on the edge of the Negev in Israel is as Cholot Chaluza ( Halutza Sands ) refers. In September 2011, the settlement consisted of only a few residential containers, which were inhabited by six ultra-orthodox families and Israeli soldiers. Shlomit is with the more southerly moshav Naveh and Benei Netzarim one of the three settlements of the Jewish National Fund, in those who have found a new home settlers who were relocated from the Gaza Strip in 2005.

Planning

Shlomit shall be inhabited by 500 families in the future. The plans of the Israeli Ministry of the Development of the Negev and the Galilee and the regional association provide even 1,500 families. In addition to homes and schools, an industrial area and arable land are provided. The Ministry of Defense is responsible for the security of the settlement, the costs have to be but partially supported by the settlers themselves.
