Shmuel Dayan

Shmuel Dayan (Hebrew שמואל דיין; born August 8, 1891 in Jaschkow in Ukraine; † August 11, 1968 in Nahallal ) was an Israeli writer and politician. He was one of the founders of the moshav movement. His son Moshe Dayan is considered one of Israel's most important generals and one of the founding fathers of Israel.

Dayan emigrated in 1908 in the then Ottoman Palestine. In 1911, he joined the youth movement of a forerunner of the Workers' Party. He was one of the first settlers of Kibbutz Degania. On September 11, 1921, he was co-founder of the moshav Nahallal. As one of the leaders of Moschawbewegung he was several times to Poland, sent to Switzerland and in the United States.

After the establishment of Israel, he was a member of the Knesset for the first three electoral cycles for the Labour Party. In the third Parliament, he served as deputy speaker of the Knesset.

Shmuel Dayan is the grandfather of the writer and politician Yael Dayan and director Asaf " Assi " Dayan.
