Shōbōgenzō

Shobogenzo (. Jap.正法 眼 蔵; German lit: " The Treasury of the True Dharma Eye" ) is the title of the main work of the Japanese Zen master Dogen, he ( year of his death ) wrote in the period from August 1231 to January 1253. The Shobogenzo is the central Scripture for the followers of the Soto Zen.

One of the school of Soto Zen in Japan beyond importance was the writing in the 20th century, after the philosopher Watsuji Tetsuro ( 1889-1960 ) published them in his 1924 treatise Shamon Dogen (沙门 道 元; German " the monk Dogen " ) had described as a product of the " original Japanese thought " and she wanted to wrest " ( the Soto Zen) from the clutches of the sect ." As a result, the carried forward in this work thinking of numerous Japanese thinkers was re-examined.

Typical stylistic means, the Chinese intellectuals of the Song period are characterized, as the writings of highly educated nobleman in Japan at the same time mingle with private and distinctive style. The quotes show the wide range of works that Dogen has read. It involves classical Chinese literature from Confucius to then-contemporary works, said Buddhist literature dominated.
