Shoemaker (lunar crater)

48.33

Shoemaker is a lunar crater in the southern hemisphere near the south pole, between the Kraten Haworth in the northwest and Nobile in the Northeast. Due to the South Pole near the interior of the eroded, circular crater is most of the time in the shade.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 2000 after the American astronomer and geologist Eugene Shoemaker.

In July 1999, the lunar probe Lunar Prospector crashed into that crater.
