Shōichi Nakagawa

Shoichi Nakagawa (Japanese中 川 昭 一, Shoichi Nakagawa, born July 19, 1953 in Shibuya, Tokyo Prefecture, reported in Hiroo, Hokkaidō, † October 4, 2009 in Tokyo, Japan ) was a Japanese politician of the Liberal Democratic Party ( LDP), a member the Shūgiin, the lower house, and was from September 2008 to February 17, 2009 Finance Minister of his country. Within the LDP, he belonged to the Ibuki faction.

Life

Nakagawa was the eldest son of a former Ichirō Nakagawa Shūgiin deputies of the LDP, Agriculture and Science Minister. He studied political science at the University of Tokyo. After graduating in 1978, he worked for five years for the KK Nippon Ginko Kōgyō.

In the 1983 election Shūgiin Nakagawa was first elected to his father's suicide in the fifth constituency Hokkaidō ( 5 seats ) in parliament. He was Parliamentary Secretary 1989 ( seimujikan ) in the Ministry of Agriculture.

Since 1996, Nakagawa was a candidate in a single constituency Hokkaidō 11, which he won four times since then. In the same year he was appointed deputy secretary general of the LDP. Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi appointed him in 1998 as Minister of Agriculture for the first time in a cabinet. Under Koizumi Jun'ichirô he was from 2003 Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry, before he again took over the Ministry of Agriculture, 2005. In 2006 he received under Shinzō Abe one of the three leading posts of the LDP as chairman of the policy research committee ( PARC ).

In September 2008, taro Asō Nakagawa appointed as Finance Minister in his first cabinet. After he vaguely spoke at a press conference for the G- 7 Finance Ministers Meeting in Rome, and seemed dazed, suspected the opposition that he was drunk. 15 minutes after the press conference, he visited the Vatican Museums, touched illegally, the exhibits and solved in the Laocoon group when climbing over the barrier the alarm. As a consequence, Nakagawa initially announced his retirement for the period after the adoption of the budget for the fiscal year 2009 on February 17, 2009, but afterwards declared with immediate effect. His successor in the office of the Finance Minister Kaoru Yosano was.

When Shūgiin - election in 2009 on 30 August 2009 Nakagawa lost his constituency and was not re-elected via the proportional representation block Hokkaidō, where he took fourth place on the LDP list.

On October 4, 2009 Nakagawa was found dead in his apartment.

Family

His uncle Yoshio Nakagawa is a Member of the Sangiin, the House of Lords, for Hokkaidō and a member of the LDP ( Ibuki faction ). Nakagawa's grandfather was a local politician and member of the Municipal Council of Hiroo. Nakagawa's wife Yuko since 2012 represents the electoral district of Hokkaidō in 11 Shūgiin.
