The Shosha (Russian Шоша ) is a 163 km long right tributary of the Volga in Tver and Moscow oblasts, the European part of Russia.

Description

The Shosha rises about 2 km south-east of the village Shosha in the southeast of Tver Oblast, near the border with the Moscow Oblast, and only a few hundred meters from the highway M9. From there it flows into first predominantly northern and north-western directions through the densely populated border region of Tver Oblasts and Moscow.

Before the confluence of the Schabnja the river turns to the northeast, changes its direction of flow but just before reaching the border with the Moscow Oblast again in western and north-western, a little later northern directions. After the confluence of the Schidochowka Shosha changes again in northeastern and eastern directions of flow. At the village Retschki the Shosha reached the Moscow Oblast and now forms along several kilometers of the border between the Tver and Moscow oblasts, several times interrupted by stretches where it flows completely in just a Oblast. She holds onto the eastern direction of flow, and finally reached at Redkino, about 20 km southeast of Tver, the pent-up reservoir for Iwankowoer Volga.

The Shosha begins in late November to early January freeze over, the ice breaks late March to mid-April. The river is popular for fishing, go fishing, among others, chub, bream, ide and roach.
