Shrek (sheep)

Shrek (* about 1994; † 6 June 2011) was a Merino sheep in New Zealand, which gained nationwide notoriety.

Shrek was one of 17,000 sheep on a 11,000 acre farm in Tarra. He managed six years to 2004, to escape the scissors by hiding in caves. Television broadcasts his capture and subsequent shearing, which was also transmitted live, earned him enormous popularity. When it was shorn, came 27 kg wool together.

In May 2004, it hit the New Zealand Parliament by Prime Minister Helen Clark together. Through tours earned his owner John Perriam per gig 16,000 New Zealand dollars, which he donated 150,000 dollars to the New Zealand Children's Cancer Aid. It was Shrek protagonist of several children's books.
