Sibylle of Bavaria

Sibylle of Bavaria ( * June 16, 1489, † April 18, 1519 in Heidelberg) from the House of Wittelsbach was a princess of Bavaria- Munich and by marriage Electress of the Palatinate.

Life

Sibylle was a daughter of Duke Albrecht IV of Bavaria -Munich (1447-1508) from his marriage to Gwendolyn (1465-1520), daughter of Holy Roman Emperor Frederick III.

She married on 23 February 1511 Heidelberg Elector Ludwig V of the Palatinate ( 1478-1544 ). Ludwig had already been engaged to Sibylle's older sister Sidonie, but this hardly died at age 17 before the marriage. The marriage was the starting point of the relaxation of the ratio of the Palatinate and Bavaria, which was weighed down by the Landshut War of Succession. However, the ratio of the Palatinate to the Emperor Maximilian, whose niece was Sibyl, improved and Ludwig approached politically the Contra covenant.

The electoral couple remained childless. Sibylle was buried in Heidelberg Church of Holy Spirit. The legacy of Sibylle was temporarily occupied by her brother Ernst, what her brother William and her widower refused and promised more serious for higher ecclesiastics.
