Sidney Gilliat

Sidney Gilliat (* February 15, 1908 in Edgeley, † 31 May 1994 Valle Pewsey, Wiltshire ) was a British screenwriter, film director and film producer.

Life

Sidney Gilliat first worked as a journalist and then came as assistant to writers and as Gagman the film. As co -author, he wrote his first screenplay in 1932 and was then mainly for some years in productions of Michael Balcon worked. With his colleague Frank Launder a long-term collaboration, which also included the director and production responsibility over the years in addition to writing screenplays developed at this time. From the early 60s Gilliat worked as head of Shepperton Studios, founded the British Writers Association and was barely active as a writer or director.
