Sidya Touré

Sidya Touré ( born 1945 ) was Prime Minister from 1996 to 1999 of Guinea.

Political career

Since 1972 he was involved in various functions with economic and financial issues. From the end of 1990 he was private secretary to the Prime Minister of Côte d'Ivoire for three years. After he spent two years working for a company in the agricultural sector, he went into politics.

He was on 10 July 1996 Prime Minister under the ruling since 1984 president Lansana Conté. The office of Prime Minister was abolished in December 1984. The President expected from him the restoration of the weak economy Guinea. His term ended on March 8, 1999, when Lamine Sidimé became his successor.

On 20 May 2000, he became president of the opposition party Union of the Forces Républicaines ( UFR ). In his capacity as leader of the opposition he has since been occasionally briefly detained or summoned. At first he intended candidacy in the presidential elections in December 2003. His party then boycotted the elections, with 95.63 % of the vote was won by the incumbent Conté as expected.

Family

Touré is married and has four children.
