Siegfried Blechert

Siegfried Blechert, ( born May 1, 1946 in Aalborg, Denmark ) is a German chemist.

Life and work

Siegfried Blechert studied from 1968 to 1971 chemistry at the University of Hannover. In 1974 he received his doctorate as an academic student of Ekkehard Winterfeldt with a dissertation for the synthesis of acridone alkaloids. After several years as a researcher on a postdoctoral fellowship followed with Pierre Potier in France for the synthesis of Taxol and its derivative Taxotere. In 1983 he completed his habilitation at the University of Hanover via rearrangement reactions among NO bond breaking. So from 1986 to 1990, he taught as professor of organic chemistry at the University of Bonn. In 1990, he received offers of professorships at the Universities of Wuppertal, Paderborn, Ulm and the Technical University of Berlin. He accepted an appointment at the Technical University of Berlin and is since 1990 Professor of Organic Chemistry.

Current research interests are the synthesis of natural products as well as homogeneous and heterogeneous catalysis ( olefin metathesis, hydroamination, heterogeneous photocatalysis with graphitic carbon nitrides ).
