Siegfried L. Kratochwil

Siegfried Leopold Kratochwil ( born March 24, 1916 in Karlstift, Lower Austria, † 25 February 2005) was an Austrian painter and poet. He is regarded as one of Austria's most famous naive painter.

Life

Kratochvil was born in 1916 in a logging town in Karlstift (Lower Austria ). After attending a vocational school, he was first a mechanic and toolmaker. Of necessity, he had to try in many professions. In 1939 he married. The first years of marriage were very problematic because of the war, the Russian occupation of Vienna and the economic hardship. His poor health kept him from the military. Kratochwil had to work in a munitions factory.

Kratochwil helped his daughter was born in 1941 to draw and paint - so began a 50- year-long picturesque passion, which mainly focused on motives of the Austrian culture and history. Kratochwil also dealt with densities and etchings.

Siegfried L. Kratochwil painted with motifs preference Vienna and wrote a poem to each image. He was buried in Vienna in 2005.
