Siegfried Ludwig

Siegfried Ludwig ( born February 14, 1926 in Wostitz, Czechoslovakia, † April 16, 2013 in St. Pölten, Lower Austria ) was an Austrian politician. He was from 1981 to 1992 Governor of Lower Austria.

Life

Siegfried Ludwig attended high school in Znojmo, in 1944 he was drafted into the German Wehrmacht. After his release from captivity, he moved to Austria in 1946 and studied until 1953 as a student of Law. In 1954 he entered the Lower Austrian service, where he engaged in the Staff Committee and in ÖAAB.

From 1964 to 1969 he was a deputy in the Parliament of ÖVP Lower Austria, then to 1981 and Deputy Governor from 1981 to 1992 Governor of Lower Austria. He succeeded Andreas Maurer. Most recently, he lived in his home town Perchtoldsdorf, where he was mayor for several years and is an honorary citizen.

His involvement in the WBO scandal in the early 1980s was never completely clarified, as the People's Party rejected a committee in Parliament.

In his era he initiated in the state capital question, after the city of St. Pölten, Lower Austria's capital was dropped. Only gradually did the new country house district was created and the state government and other institutions moved from Vienna to the new state capital to the Traisen.

The construction of the March Field channel fell into his time, as well as the foundation of today's Danube University Krems. The partial privatization of EVN was carried out under its auspices.

He was a member of several compounds of the MKV ( KÖStV Aggstein St. Pölten, St. Pölten KÖMV Nibelungia ) and the ACA ( KÖStV Austria, KÖAV Floriana ).

He is one of the few honorary citizen of the State of Lower Austria (1992 ) and recipient of the honorary ring of the province of Lower Austria (1986).

After his political career, he was active in the Supervisory Board of Flughafen Wien AG, AUA, and as Chairman of the EVN. He was also chairman of the housing cooperative Alpine country.
