Siegfried Mehnert

Siegfried Mehnert ( born March 2, 1963 in Schenkenberg ) is a retired German boxer.

Life

Mehnert began at the Children's and Youth Sports School of the City Hall with the sport of boxing. Even as a teenager, he collected 1977 and 1979 first title at Spartakiads and in the GDR Junior Championship, 1982, he was European Junior Champion. Then, in his first year with the seniors, he was East German champion, and at the European Championships in 1983, he finished in third place. The fighting for the SC Chemie Halle Mehnert, the half Welter and then took until 1987 welterweight, leaving two European titles (1985 and 1989 ) and two second places in Europe or World Championships ( 1987 and 1989) followed. After the reunification in 1991, he reached a third place in the all-German championships and finished after his career as an active Boxsportler.

In 1986 he was awarded in the GDR with the Patriotic Order of Merit in silver.

Mehnert is today ( 2008) as coach of the Boxer of the Karlsruher SC active.
