Siegfried Wortmann

Siegfried Wortmann (* 1908) was an Austrian football player.

Career

Siegfried Wortmann began his career in the youth team of SC Hakoah Vienna, where he already was first raised in the first team as a sixteen year old 1923/24, to insert, at first he mostly remained replacement as a connector, also known as the Austrian championship was won in 1924/25. For a regular in the First League Siegfried Wortmann however was soon 1925/26. With strong performances he even Hugo Meisl attention. His debut in the Austrian national team had a successful run, in a 2-1 against Czechoslovakia in Prague Siegfried Wortmann scored the winning goal after Matthias Sindelar had scored the first goal.

After a tour in the United States with his club in the summer of 1927, Siegfried Wortmann signed with the New York Nationals, where he remained one and a half seasons long before he moved to the beginning of 1929 to New York Hakoah, where he met many former players from Vienna. Best Merits for the connector in the American Football was the two gains of the U.S. Open Cup in 1928 with the Nationals and 1929 with the Hakoah. At the finals in 1928 against the Chicago Bricklayers and 1929 against the St. Louis Madison Kennels himself stood each as scorer in appearance. Until the end of 1931 Siegfried Wortmann stayed in New York before his path led back to the Austrian league again. In Vienna, the connector of the Vienna followed. Here he could 1932/33, even be Austrian champion and also sit in Mitropacup with a goal to a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in the scene.

Later Wortmann emigrated to the United States and operated a millinery business in New York.
