Siegmundsburg is a district of the town of Neuhaus am Rennweg in the district of Sonneberg, Thuringia.

Geography

Siegmundsburg am Rennsteig is in the Thuringian Slate Mountains. It is a linear village. Near the city is the three power stone that marks the intersection of the water catchment areas of the river Weser, Rhine and Elbe.

History

The place was first mentioned in documents in 1492. The equerry Hans Siegmund von Schaumberg issued in 1728 the glass champion Michael Gundelach the concession to build and operate a glass and Fayencehütte ( Gundelachshütte ). The company flourished in the first decades of its existence, and the place grew on the Saar houses. Michael Gundelach rose to the castle captain on to ice rink and sold the cottage in 1772 to the Duchess Charlotte Amalie of Saxe- Meiningen, which they converted into a forester's house. 1737 were the Hiftenberger houses, one built on the territory of the court Sonnenberg and two on Schaumberg - Rauensteiner Territory later Schalkau office above a former gold mine in the base of the upper Grümpen counted to Siegmundsburg. Siegmundsburg belonged until 1920 to Saxe-Meiningen.

31 December 2012 Siegmundsburg was incorporated to Neuhaus am Rennweg.

Coat of arms

The authorized on 11 April 1995 coat of arms of the town shows in three colored division a silver obelisk and a green hunting horn on a triple mount with embedded wave peaks. The obelisk on a blue background symbolizes the located in the hall of the place of three power stone on the hydrographic point of contact of the three river basins of the Elbe, Rhine and Weser and the prevailing humid climate. The bugle symbolizes the hunting traditionally applied in the area. The three mountain refers to the ridge location of the village, the green stands for the wooded area.

Economy and infrastructure

Siegmundsburg was once a forest worker settlement. Later still came the glass industry to do so. Today, tourism is the main industry of the place.

Siegmundsburg is located on the main road 281, which connects ice rink and Neuhaus am Rennweg.
